The
itinerary which we propose here skirts the River Ticino from Sesto Calende
to Turbigo and goes along the Piedmontese bank up until Molino Vecchio.
The route - all on level ground - is entirely inside the Park of Ticino
and permits fully enjoying the natural environment with its variegated
flora and fauna. It is easily done by bicycle which you can hire here.
In part you will also be cycling on tracts closed to car traffic.
Numerous indications allow the visitor to find where to hire a bicycle,
to find the cycle and cycle-only roads and the various areas set aside
for eating, rest, etc. For information contact: the Consorzio
Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino, Via Isonzo 1, 20013
Ponte Vecchio di Magenta, tel. +39 02 97210; and the Ente
di Gestione Parco Naturale della Valle del Ticino, Viale
Garibaldi 4, 28047 Oleggio, tel. +39 0321 93028.
With respect to the more classical itinerary on the road that runs along
the river, we propose a number of alternatives in the most northern
part of the river in order to visit Monsorino,
with the remains of the necropolises of the Golasecca civilization,
the castle of Somma Lombardo
and the Roman and Longobard remains to be found at Arsago
Seprio.
To reach Sesto Calende: from the south by car take the A8 motorway
or the A26 from Novara (slip road for Sesto Calende), by train with the
Ferrovie
dello Stato,or else by bus.
